Research Assistant - G6 £25,491 - £27,069 HAR-007539 (One-Year Contract)

Harrow Council is the 12th largest London Borough by area and one of the most culturally diverse local authorities in the UK, making it a great place to live, work and visit. The Civic Centre is located 10 miles from central London and adjacent to Harrow & Wealdstone Station, which is just 14 minutes from Euston by national rail. Alternatively there are good transport links via the Metropolitan Line and the London Overground Watford DC Line.

We are looking for someone to join our small Research Team, which is part of the Regeneration, Planning and Enterprise division.  Reporting to the Principal Research & Information Officer, you will assist in monitoring town planning information and collating, analysing and disseminating statistics in an informative way.

The work of the team is varied and in 2019 we are planning to publish a refresh of the Harrow Vitality Profiles and this will be part of your work. This will involve liaison with officers from across the council and the opportunity to demonstrate your skills in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). You will also be providing assistance to Policy Planners and the Economic Development Team.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • a degree level qualification in Geography, GIS, Town Planning or related subject with a strong GIS or statistical component and/or equivalent working experience in a similar or related field
  • data analysis and research skills
  • to be highly numerate and proficient in using spreadsheet, database and GIS software
  • able to work accurately under minimal supervision
  • to demonstrate your ability to present your research findings in reports
  • excellent communication skills
  • to be able to work independently, as well as part of a team

For additional information please refer to the Role Profile/Selection Criteria.

HARROW REDEPLOYEES WILL BE GIVEN PRIORITY CONSIDERATION
